For You

As many are hopefully aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. This piece is specifically for someone in our family who we all love and cherish so deeply, but it applies everywhere this battle is fought. God’s Blessings to all that wage war on this disease.

For You

By David De Jong

When you wonder why, this is all happening,
We’ll have no answers, but we will pray, for you.
As you lie sleepless and await test results,
We will lie awake, and we will pray, for you.
While you battle this disease, following queue,
Battle lines are drawn, and we will pray, for you.
When we hold you and hug you, in our frail form,
We’ll hold onto hope, and we will pray, for you.
When you seem all alone, in a quiet room,
We’ll bring our hearts there, and we will pray, for you.
When you can’t sleep, and the night seems far too long,
We will stay awake, and we will pray, for you.
When medicines fade, and the sickness begins,
We are here, we are there, we will pray, for you.
When you can’t eat, because food has lost its taste,
We will fast along, and we will pray, for you.
When your hair is gone, and you curse the mirror,
We will shave our heads, and we will pray, for you.
When you laugh, smile, and have another good day,
We will laugh along, and we will pray, for you.
When the treatments are done, doctors say it’s gone,
We’ll be on our knees, and we will pray, for you!
When you can leap with joy, victory is yours;
We will shout, we will sing, we will cry out loud;
We will give full thanks, and we will pray, for you!
