September Sunflowers

September Sunflowers

September Sunflowers

By David De Jong

September sunflowers swaying in the breeze
Listening to autumn’s haunting, calling to the trees
Late bloomers struggle, to carry summer on
While faded flowers shiver, each dew struck dawn

Seed head garden plots, for wing’ed splendor fare
Busy gleaning harvest, bounty full aware
Stalks are weakening, and beginning to bow
More color of feather, than blossoms now show

Sky filled dormant branches and migration toils
As autumn takes victories and claims its spoils
Some seeds will fall, others be carried on wing
Rest assured all will return, in coming spring
